The Pont-Aven River runs through the center and is lined with old stone buildings typical to France. Started on location again and finished indoors. I worked quickly once again to retain freshness. My first goal was to capture the gentle light on the buildings and then the contrast of the rest of the landscape.Keeping the softness of he distant winter trees was a good exercise for me, especially where they meet the sky.Debbie Milnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08090494416361747438noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-188098579233734924.post-86818115782133390992010-02-03T03:10:00.000-08:002010-02-03T10:12:02.110-08:00Brittany Blue- Oil 8x8
I haven't posted for a bit but have been spending lots of time exploring and taking photos. In France the tiny villages are sometimes only a few hundred meters apart. This one is called Kerneurzach. I started the sketch and barely got a couple dabs of paint laid down and it started to drizzle. I took mental notes , a picture and headed back to paint it inside. The water was like glass, perfect for reflections. I started it outside but had to finish it later indoors. I was drawn to the way the rope led the eye into this cluster of boats. Along with helping a family member with their new baby, I'll be doing some Plein Air painting. It rains a lot there this time of year so I'll have to get creative. I told everyone not to enter my studio and the clock started ticking! I didn't have time to do a drawing but just loosely stroked in a few basic lines to start from. I really liked what happened. I found myself really focusing on only the bare essentials and trying to lay down the right colors and values right away.
